Nader Salessi
CEO, Founder

Nader has spent his career leading Technology teams and driving company success for over 30 years. With history leading the STEC Engineering department and launch of the Enterprise SSD Market. More recently Nader led a team at Western Digital in their Enterprise SSD product platform. In 2013, he made the decision to launch his own company, NGD Systems, with his co-founders to develop an emerging solution to the SSD market, creating the world’s first Computational Storage device.

Vladimir Alves
CTO, Co-Founder

Vladimir Alves  obtained his PhD degree in Microelectronics when the 500nm CMOS process was all the hype. Since then Vladimir worked in the academia, startups and multinational companies architecting and developing System on Chips. In the last 15 years he has been focusing on solid state storage technology and is now the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at NGD Systems helping create innovative technology that pushes the boundaries of storage and computation.

Richard Mataya
EVP, Co-Founder

Richard is an OG storage nerd and has devoted his career to driving SSD product develop and leading technology teams. His pioneering work at Memtech included putting SSDs on the polar ice caps, deep undersea, and into outer space, with later leadership at STEC and Western Digital that included introducing the first SSDs to enterprise applications. He is currently Co-Founder and EVP of Product Development and Operations at NGD Systems, and his portfolio includes thousands of SSDs and 8 granted patents.

Bill Haberlin
CSO

Bill has led, developed and successfully had his company acquired in his 30 years of experience. Bill has held positions of CEO, CSO. He has been involved in start-up company efforts for much of his career. He has worked for Microsemi and SiGe before joining NGD Systems.

Al Talavera
CFO

Al has spent his career leading technology companies financial planning for over 25 years. Al has led teams at Western Digital, Broadcom Corporation, Semtech and a number of early stage companies. Al has worked on M&A, Financial planning and fundraising efforts for these companies. Al is a CPA and loves life in Orange County.

Eli Tiomkin
VP Business Development

Eli has spent his career developing and driving business and sales for over 20 years. He has experience with companies like M-Systems, STEC, StorOne, and Western Digital. He has been in Sales or Business Develop at many companies that were at ground level and helped them all to successful growth.

Scott Shadley
VP of Marketing

Scott has spent over 20 years in the Semiconductor and storage space in MFG, Design and Marketing. His experience spans over 15 years at Micron and time at STEC. His efforts have help lead to products in the market with over $300M in revenue.

Job Title: Firmware Engineer

Job Duties: NGD Systems is introducing a new class of Solid State Drive (SSD) that is In-Situ enabled, and truly brings intelligence to storage.  That effort needs a Principal Firmware Engineer to help develop high-performance controller firmware for this innovative non-volatile storage system that incorporates advanced compute capabilities. In this position, you will create firmware for NGD’s proprietary storage controllers and help us realize its maximum potential from a performance, capacity, and power perspective.  In our collaborative environment, you’ll work with other firmware engineers, our ASIC team, and the hardware, test and validation groups, solving cross-functional design issues and introducing new and innovative code. For this role, you must have a high level of self-motivation and dedication, have the ability to work well in a small, team-based environment, multitask effectively, and apply excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work in partnership with the architectural team to define the overall FW strategy and then work to implement and test the FW solution
  • Interpret system architecture into subcomponent modules to be realized in firmware
  • Ensure that the firmware is delivered at the highest quality level, utilizing an Agile like approach of iterative, test-driven development and continuous integration
  • Mentor and educate the team, providing technical input, and work effectively inside and outside the group
  • Developing structured source code targeting the embedded environment associated with state of the art memory
  • Performing design verification using a variety of verification methods, including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and product testing
  • Focusing on firmware quality in the system and the target application
  • Using analysis equipment or software to address functional or performance issues within the firmware and hardware in test environments or target host systems

Requirements: Successful candidates for this position must have:

  • The ability to work well in a team-based environment
  • The ability to multitask effectively in fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency debugging an embedded firmware application
  • The ability to find creative solutions to difficult problems

  • Hands-on experience in firmware development and verification, system failure analysis, and problem solving
  • A working knowledge of digital hardware design and test equipment such as protocol analyzers, logic/bus analyzers and scopes, is optional but highly desired

Education:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, with minimum of 5 years of experience, or
  • MS in similar disciplines with three years of experience.

Job Duties: NGD Systems is introducing a new class of Solid State Drive (SSD) that is In-Situ enabled, and truly brings intelligence to storage.  That effort needs a Senior Hardware Engineer to help develop high-performance electronics for this innovative non-volatile storage system.  In this position, you will help create the electronic subsystems and PCBAs on which proprietary NGD storage controllers are employed and help us realize their maximum potential from a performance, capacity, and power perspective.  In our collaborative environment, you’ll work with other hardware engineers, our ASIC team, and the firmware, test and validation groups, solving cross-functional design issues and introduce new and innovative platforms. For this role, you must have a high level of self-motivation and dedication, have the ability to work well in a team-based environment, multitask effectively, and apply excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Define requirements for electronic subsystems
  • Publish and maintain (PCB) layout and design guidelines while considering feasibility, functionality, cost, and time to market
  • Develop electronic circuits using simulation/modeling tools to achieve best in class metrics for signal integrity, emissions, and susceptibility
  • Work with the PCB layout group to achieve technically robust and cost-efficient board layouts
  • Identify and resolve cross-functional development issues
  • Define and approve changes to printed circuit boards and assemblies
  • Responsible for Bill of Materials (BOM’s) for all builds from concept to early production
  • Participate in the integration of electronics, firmware, and mechanical components during the development of new products
  • Lead for Failure Analysis and reporting, including resolution of issues found in validation testing
  • Recommend appropriate technical tradeoffs in product design
  • Participate in the conceptual and architectural definition of new products

Requirements:

  • BS +3 or more yrs. related experience, or MS +1 or more yrs. related experience
  • Experience in digital and analog electronic design for high volume manufacturing
  • Previous direct experience with SSD or storage products
  • Experience with Cadence schematic, layout and simulation tools a plus

Detailed knowledge of power supply design and simulation a plus

Salary: $100,000 per year

Job Duties: Develop high-performance software, applications and drivers for a new class of storage with embedded compute capability. Modification of embedded controller firmware for an innovative non-volatile memory system with advanced storage and compute capabilities; Assist in evaluating, designing, and building application environments and interface protocols for new high-performance storage products based on SoC and FPGA designs; Work closely with firmware engineers, firmware test engineers, ASIC engineers, system hardware design engineers, product engineers, and production engineers to solve cross-functional design issues; Demonstrate functionality and trouble-shoot implementation issues with prospects requiring computational storage capability; and application development on Intel CPUs (Pentium and Xeon) using Microsoft or Linux operating systems. Limited domestic and international travel, up to 15 days total annually, to perform demos and implement systems at customer sites, including debug.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Electronics Engineering, or closely related field or foreign equivalent; Two years of experience in computer networking, including interconnect schemes, packet inspection and security protocols; Two years of direct experience performing administration tasks as well as developing applications and drivers in operating systems, including Microsoft, Unix, and Linux. One year of experience in using scripting and programming languages, including PERL, TCL and C/C++.
